Prof. Huang’s expertise is research and application in geotechnical engineering. He is a registered Geotechnical Engineer in China. From 1990 to 2009, he has worked at China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (formerly Second Survey and Design Institute of the Ministry of Railways). Since 2009, he has been working at Southwest Jiaotong University.

Prof. Huang’s recent research focuses on continuous compaction control (CCC) of subgrade. He has participated in the research including coarse-grained soil subgrade, intelligent system of K30, control characteristic and control mechanism of continuous compaction of high speed railway subgrade and control technology and equipment of high speed railway subgrade continuous compaction detection. He is the chief editor of China’s first continuous compaction quality inspection and control technical industry standards.

He also promotes the detection and control technology of subgrade continuous compaction in subgrade engineering at Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, Chengdu-Guanxian railway and Lanzhou-Xinjiang railway.
