Bio of Prof. Jean-Pierre Magnan

Graduated from “Ecole Polytechnique” (Paris) in 1971 from “Ecole National des Ponts et Chaussees” (Paris) in 1973 and receive a Docteur-es-Science Degree from University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris) in 1984.

Prof. Magnan us Head of the Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental and Risk Department of the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Deployment and Networks (IFSTTAR), former Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussees (LCPC), and Professor of Soils and Rock Mechanics at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees.

Prof. Magnan is a member of CEN TC 288 (Execution of Geotechnical Works) and CET TC 396 (Earthworks) and chairman of the French Coordination Committee for Standardization in Geotechnical Engineering.

Prof. Magnan is involved in research, teaching and consulting in the general field of geotechnical engineering, in particular earth structures, natural risks, soil-structure interaction, soft and swelling soils, site investigations, modeling and design. He has over 300 technical papers published on these subjects.
