Mike is Visiting Industrial Professor at the University of Portsmouth, a Chartered Civil Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Chartered Geologist. He has led a wide variety of research and consultancy in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, engineering geology and waste management for national and local government, and commercial clients internationally over a period of 30+ years. Mike also contributes to environmental projects and has managed multi-disciplinary programmes and directed projects in all other aspects of transport including safety, transportation and the environment. He is an internationally recognised landslides expert, particularly on debris flows.
Mike has made major contributions to current procedures and methodologies for earthworking, particularly in glacial till and high stone content materials, and to the engineering use of secondary materials (e.g. PFA and spent oil shale).
